Kyrenia and Famagusta Excursion from Protaras

A trip that will give you the chance to discover the unspoiled beauty of the northern part of Cyprus. On this unique excursion you will have a short drive to the "Ghost Town" of Famagusta and then enough time is given to wander around Famagusta Old Town Center. There you can admire the Gothic Church of Saint Nicholas and the charming surroundings. Continue your day driving through Pentadaktilos Mountain Range and a visit to Bellapais Abbey. The final stop is in the northern end of the island, the town of Kerynia. Take advantage of the free time and visit the Kerynia picturesque Harbor and the Castle of Kerynia, which hosts the remains of one of the oldest shipwrecks in the world.

A trip that will give you the chance to discover the unspoiled beauty of the northern part of Cyprus and to get an exciting taste of the turbulent history of the island.

You will be picked up from your Protaras Hotel at approximately 8:00am. From there you will start traveling towards Famagusta town center. You will drive right next to the "Ghost Town" (the fenced sealed - off area of the town) which remains trapped in a time-lock since the Turkish invasion in Cyprus in 1974. You will then arrive at Famagusta Old Town Center where free time (approx 1 hour) will be given to enjoy the surroundings of this beautiful coastal town, famous for its golden sandy beaches, it's old Venetian Walls and the Gothic Church of Saint Nicholas.

Driving through Pentadaktilos Mountain Range, arrive at Bellapais Abbey, which is a masterpiece of Gothic Art! It's construction was completed in the 13th century AD by the White Canons, a Roman Catholic religious order founded by Saint Norbert. The Abbey also offers breathtaking views of the coast of Kerynia and a pleasant atmosphere of tranquility.

The final stop is in the northern end of the island the town of Kerynia, a city with more than 3000 years of Greek history. There is plenty of free time (approximately 2 hours) given for lunch (optional extra) and sightseeing. There, you can also visit the Kerynia picturesque Harbor and the Castle of Kerynia, which hosts the remains of one of the oldest shipwrecks in the world (optional extra). You will then be returned to your hotel.

A current valid passport is required on the day of travel (European Union Citizens are allowed to use Identity Cards - For other nationalities passports are required).  Only original documents will be accepted at the checkpoint - no photocopies are allowed.
